Color consultations
Real paint drawdowns on your own walls, in your own light, before a single room is painted.
What it involves
Why drawdowns beat chips
A color consultation puts real paint drawdowns on your walls, so you choose the color in your own light instead of from a small chip. The color is settled before the work starts.
A drawdown is a large card coated with the actual paint. Taped to your wall, it shows how the color reads in morning and evening light, beside your floors, trim and furniture. A small chip under store lighting rarely tells you that.
What a consultation covers
- Real paint drawdowns taped to the walls you are painting
- Wall, trim and ceiling colors that work together
- Sheen choices for each room
- Colors chosen with a future sale in mind, if you are listing
Talk it through
We start with the rooms, the light and what you want each space to feel like.
Test on your walls
We put real paint drawdowns on the walls in question, so you see each option in your own light.
Settle it in writing
The chosen colors and sheens go into your written quote, room by room.

Why it helps
Color decided on your own wall

Seen in your own light
Morning sun and evening lamps change a color. You see both before you commit.

One total, written down
Every room, every coat and one total. The quoted number is the invoiced number, and it holds unless the job changes.

One point of contact
The person who quotes your job is the person who inspects it with you at the end.
The result
The color you chose, finished
Once the color is settled, it goes into your written quote and onto the walls, with an update at the end of every working day until the room is done.

Color consultation questions
Request a walkthroughWhat is a paint drawdown?
A drawdown is a large card coated with the actual paint in a smooth, even film. It shows the true color and sheen far better than a small printed chip.
Why test colors on our own walls?
Color shifts with light, floors and trim. Seeing a drawdown on your wall in morning and evening light shows how it will look in that room.
Can color be part of a painting walkthrough?
Yes. We talk through color at every walkthrough, and the colors you choose are written into your quote room by room.
Which colors work if we plan to sell?
Buyers' tastes shift, so we test a short list of options in your own light. Our guide to paint colors for selling a house walks through what recent buyer research says.
